It's been nearly three months since lululemon athletica (NASDAQ: LULU ) had to pull its stock of black Luon yoga pants after the proprietary fabric was too see-through for some buyers. The retailer began restocking most of the styles that were removed this week, but it will pay the price.
Analysts see a dip in profitability and decelerating growth when the high-end retailer posts quarterly results next week. The key here -- as longtime Fool contributor Rick Munarriz points out in this video -- is the guidance that it provides on its near-term future.
Upscale chains are thriving these days. Michael Kors (NYSE: KORS ) posted blowout quarterly results last week, and handbag rival Coach (NYSE: COH ) boosted its dividend a week earlier. This should be a good time for Lululemon to bounce back, but it's going to have to prove that it's up to the task.
Lululemon has the potential to grow its sales by 10 times if it can penetrate its other markets like it has in Canada, but the competitive landscape is starting to increase. Can the company fight off larger retailers and ultimately deliver huge profits for savvy investors? The Motley Fool answers these questions and more in ourmost in-depth Lululemon research available. Small cap Checkpoint Systems, Inc (NYSE: CKP) fights shoplifting or retail theft and other forms of"shrinkthat costs retailers over $112 billion worldwide last year (according to a study funded by the company), meaning it might be an interesting stock to take a closer look at and to compare its performance with that of SPDR S&P Retail ETF (NYSEARCA: XRT) and PowerShares Dynamic Retail ETF (NYSEARCA: PMR). Just how bad can shoplifting or shrink be for a retailer? Troubled retailer J.C. Penney Company, Inc (NYSE: JCP) has just reported that shoplifting took a full percentage point off the department store chain's profit margins during the quarter. Moreover and given that tens of millions of Americans are now facing higher health insurance costs thanks to Obamacare (which will likely impact consumer discretionary spending),retailerswill need to find ways to shore up their margins and bottom lines by preventingretail theft with solutions from company like Checkpoint Systems.

A broad-based investment into the Mexican economy either through the iShares MSCI Mexico Investable Market Index (NYSE: EWW) or the Mexico Fund (NYSE: MXF) -- a favorite of StreetAuthority analyst Amy Calistri -- are good ways to establish a position. These funds not only have exposure to the manufacturing sector, but also to energy, health care and media -- sectors that are benefiting from political reforms and a growing Mexican middle class. The Mexico Fund has a powerful incentive for investors as well in the form of a hefty 10% dividend.
