Top 5 Canadian Stocks To Own Right Now

Solar stocks are finally basking in the sun once again. New subsidies from key markets like China and Japan, as well as low module pricing, have taken hold over the last year or so. Plus, the number of PV installations has surged. As a result, solar stocks like Canadian Solar(CSIQ) and First Solar (FSLR)have beensome of the best names, with the industry gaining about 141% this year.

But for CSIQ stock investors, the sun is shining even brighter — to the tune of a nearly 800% gain in 2013 so far. And yet the story at CSIQ continues to get better. The solar stock continues rack up new contracts, sell more modules and cut costs. All in all, that resulted in CSIQ reporting some of its best earnings in years.

So with all solar stocks looking strong and the situation at CSIQ continuing to get even better, Canadian Solar stock may be one of the best long-term buys for investors.

Historically the stock prices of Deere (DE) and other agricultural equipment firms and retailers like Case-New Holland (CNH), Titan Machinery (TITN), AGCO (AGCO), Tractor Supply (TSCO), Valmont (VAL), and Lindsay (LNN) have tended to closely track the price of corn. When corn prices go up, farmers tend to make more money, and they spend that money on new equipment from Deere and other firms. This relationship is especially strong for Deere and Corn, but it holds true for all of the stocks above to some extent. (Correlation coefficients between all of the stock prices above and corn are statistically significant to at least the 5% level, see my blog here for more details.)

ARCP has a shorter trading history than some of its peers, such as Realty Income (O) and National Retail Properties (NNN), which largely explains why its yield is higher. As a relatively new REIT, ARCP stock is largely unfollowed by investors. But once its merger with Cole Properties (COLE) is completed, ARCP will be the largest trip-net REIT by market cap and total square footage, and it will no longer be flying under Wall Street radar.
