EP Energy Corporation, incorporated on August 8, 2013, is an independent exploration and production company. Eagle Ford Shale

The Eagle Ford Shale, located in South Texas, is the unconventional oil plays in the United States. The Eagle Ford formation in La Salle County has up to 125 feet of net thickness, making it some of the prolific acreage in the area. Due to its high carbonate content! , the Eagle Ford is also brittle, and delivers high productivity when fractured, with initial 30-day oil equiv alent production rates up to 1,100 barrels of oil equivalent! per day.. The Company as of september 30, 2013, has 97,689 net acres in the Eagle Ford, where it has identified 983 drilling locations. As of September 30, 2013, it had six rigs running and it plan to drill 126 wells in 2013 (of which 100 have been drilled through September 30, 2013), representing 58% of its total wells planned in 2013.

Wolfcamp Shale

The Wolfcamp Shale is located in the Permian Basin, which has produced more than 29 billion barrels of oil and 75 trillion cubic feet of gas over the past 90 years and is estimated by industry experts to contain recoverable oil and natural gas reserves exceeding what has already been produced. With oil production of over 880 one thousand barrels per day from over 80,000 wells during the six months ended June 30, 2013, the Permian Basin represented 51% of the crude oil produced in the State of Texas and approximately 17% of the crude oil and condensate produced onshore in the lower 48 United States. As of September 30, 2013, it had three rigs running and it plans to drill 65 wells in 2013 (of which 48 have been drilled through September 30, 2013), representing 30% of its total wells planned in 2013.

Altamont

The Altamont field is located in the Uinta Basin in northeastern Utah. Its operations are primarily focused on developing the Altamont Field Complex (comprised of the Altamont, Bluebell and Cedar Rim fields). It owns 170,523 net (315,272 gross) acres in Duchesne and Uinta Counties, making it the ease owner in the Altamont Field Complex. Its activity is mainly focused on the development of its vertical inventory on 160-acre spacing. The Company has identified an inventory of 1,135 drilling locations (781 vertical and 354 horizontal). The industry is piloting 80-acre vertical downspacing programs in the Wasatch and Green River fo! rmations ! and horizontal development programs in the multiple shale and tight sand intervals. Shares of T. Rowe Price increased more than 2% in the pre-market session, indicating that investors have been bullish on the results. The price reaction during the trading session will give a better idea about whether T. Rowe Price has been able to meet expectations.

This technology is marketed under the trade names Luxel+ and InLight. A component of the Company's dosimetry system is OSL crystal material. The Company's base OSL material is manufactured utilizing a process to create aluminum oxide crystals in a structure that is able to retain charged electrons following the crystal's exposure to radiation.

Landauer's InLight dosimetry system provides in-house and commercial laboratories with the ability to provide in-house radiation monitoring services using OSL technology. InLight services involve a customer acquiring or leasing dosimetry devices, as well as analytical reading equipment from the Company. The InLight system allows customers the flexibility to tailor their dosimetry needs. Landauer's operations include services for the measurement and monitoring of radon gas. The Company offers a service, which provides radon monitoring and, when necessary, remediation to purchasers of personal residences. Take-Two Interactive Delivers Great Results

In the earnings preview for Take-Two Interactive (NASDAQ: TTWO  ) published ahead of earnings, one of the chief concerns I had was that analyst expectations may have been too aggressive. Indeed, with analyst consensus sitting at the high end of Take-Two's full-year guidance, there was risk of investor disappointment if the company didn't guide upward.

Well, the results are in, and it looks as though Take-Two really delivered.

Full-year revenue and earnings-per-share guidance raised
Before Take-Two's most recent earnings release, the company's full-year revenue guidance stood at between $1.35 billion and $1.45 billion, and non-GAAP earnings per share stood between $0.80 and $1.05. The analyst consensus called for $1.44 billion and $1.05, respectively.

It seems that Take-Two was being conservative, as the company's newly revised guidance calls for between $1.4 billion and $1.5 billion in revenue -- putting the midpoint at $1.45 billion -- and between $1.05 and $1.30 in earnings per share, implying a midpoint of $1.175 per share.

I was worried that the analysts were being overly bullish, but it seems that they weren't bullish enough.

New titles leading the way
Take-Two reported that it saw "strong catalog sales" in addition to "continued growth in digitally delivered revenue from recurrent consumer spending." Management also cited the "successful launches" of several new titles and claimed that there is "tremendous anticipation for [Take-Two's] upcoming releases."

For example, Take-Two noted in its earnings release that it launched multiple titles, including WWE2K15, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and NBA 2K15 across a wide variety of platforms. Additionally, Take-Two took the time to remind investors that it will be launching Grand Theft Auto V on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in November, with the PC version to follow in January.

Take-Two launched a number of titles that look as though they will perform well, and there's reason to be optimistic that Take-Two will be able to double-dip on its hit title, Grand Theft Auto V, when it launches on next-generation consoles and the PC.

However, new titles are only part of the story.

Digital revenue looking good
One way game publishers try to maximize the return they get on the games they develop is to offer additional content that can be purchased later following the original release of a given game. Take-Two reported that revenue generated from "recurrent consumer spending," which includes "virtual currency, downloadable add-on content, and online games," grew by an eye-popping 45% year over year and constituted 58% of revenue from digitally delivered content.

All-told, Take-Two reported digitally delivered content of $89.8 million for the quarter, which was down from $105.5 million last year. Take-Two noted, however, that this decline was due to the fact that digitally delivered content "benefited from the launch of Grand Theft Auto V" last year.

Take-Two is getting really good at increasing the value that it's able to extract from its customers of a title beyond the initial game sale. This is great news for long-term investors.

Foolish bottom line
Although Take-Two's business is necessarily lumpy -- a common point that many investors observe -- management seems to have done a commendable job of smoothing out the company's revenue profile in between Grand Theft Auto launches. Indeed, as the company continues to add strong new franchises to its stable, and as it continues to find ways to drive "recurrent consumer spending," it seems that Take-Two continues to do right by its long-term stockholders.

Best Dow Dividend Companies To Buy Right Now

Although we don't believe in timing the market or panicking over market movements, we do like to keep an eye on big changes -- just in case they're material to our investing thesis.

What: Shares of ExactTarget (NYSE: ET  ) missed the mark today, down by as much as 16% after the company reported earnings with weak guidance.

So what: Revenue in the quarter was $88.9 million, with an adjusted net loss of $0.08 per share. Those results topped consensus estimates, which were asking for $88 million in revenue and a loss of $0.09 per share. Earnings guidance for the coming quarter left something to be desired, though.

Now what: The second quarter is expected to generate an adjusted loss of $0.10 to $0.12 per share, which is worse than the $0.08 per share adjusted loss that investors were bracing for. Revenue should be in the range of $91 million to $92 million, which means ExactTarget will need to land near the high end to meet the $91.9 million that the Street is modeling for.

Holmdel, N.J.-based Vonage (NYSE: VG  ) has a new Chief Financial Officer.

On Friday, Vonage closed out the trading week with an announcement that it's hired away David T. Pearson from Deutsche Bank�to become its new Treasurer and CFO. At Deutsche, Pearson spent nine years working as a managing director and head of the bank's Global Media & Telecom Group. Before that, he worked in Goldman Sachs' Technology, Media & Telecommunications�group.

So he's got impeccable investment banking credentials ... for which Vonage is paying through the nose. In an SEC filing today, Vonage revealed that it's paying Pearson $475,000 in base salary, plus:

an annual cash bonus targeting 100% of base salary and two million stock options -- an equity award equal to nearly 1% of Vonage's shares outstanding

That last number is pretty staggering in size, and Vonage's share price is looking a little wobbly today, perhaps because of it. In fact, as of this writing Vonage's share price is down almost precisely in line with the size of the stock dilution expected from Pearson's hiring -- 1%.

    On Wednesday April 24th, Corning Inc. (GLW) announced a quarterly dividend increase of $0.01/share to bring its upcoming dividend payout to $0.10/share. It should be noted that this increase represents a 11.1% rise from its prior dividend of $0.09/share which was paid on January 30th. In the wake of Corning's dividend increase I wanted to examine several of the catalysts behind my decision to establish a long-term position in this particular stock.

    This morning, Corning (NYSE: GLW) reported its second quarter results. The company announced an EPS of $0.37, missing the consensus estimate of $0.38. Revenue of $2.58 billion missed the consensus estimate of $2.53 billion. Net income for the quarter fell to $169 million from $638 million in the same quarter a year ago as Gorilla Glass sales fell short of expectations and remained flat from a year ago at $298 million because of soft retail demand. The company also noted it is seeing lower than expected sales for planned new smartphones and tablets. The company did see its LCD glass division sales rise 62 percent form a year ago to $1.1 billion because of its agreement with Samsung. Optical communications sales rose 14 percent to $601 million, while environmental technologies sales rose 25 percent to $285 million. Corning issued guidance and sees its third quarter LCD glass volume rising by a mid-single digit percentage point with price declines moderating further. Optical sales will grow by a mid-single digit while environmental sales will rise 20 percent to 25 percent. Shares lost 9.30 percent, closing at $20.00.

Although the firm has made an effort to diversify its production over recent years, its net income is still concentrated on their display technology segment (97% in 2010, almost 90% in 2011 and 82.28% on 2012, according to annual reports).

    Despite being so dependent on American consumers (in contrast with other electronic components distributors), Corning and Samsung Corning Precision (SCP, a 50% subsidiary) have half the market share in the glass panel industry. So, in order to evaluate whether this company is worth being considered as a profitable long-term alternative or not, we should take a deep look into the LCD market, and characterize it, so as to know what we should expect from it.

    LCD Industry Overview

    Of course, a great bet also involves many risks. Even though LCD technology became very popular in these last few years, both in TV screens and computer monitors, we should never miss the fact that technological markets are often exposed to products becoming obsolete due to the development of new, more efficient technology. Without going any further, it�� easy to recall the plasma display panel (PDP) fiasco, an apparently promising market in the 1990s and early 2000s but quickly replaced by LCDs (by 2008 LCDs sell 21.1 million units, almost 10 times PDP sales on the same year). Even Panasonic Corporation (PCRFF) announced it will interrupt production of PDP on 2014.

    Despite being a competitive market, technology shifting isn�� always so abrupt, since new developments aren�� necessarily compatible with already developed accessories, therefore implying shifting costs. Even if the LCD industry were to become stagnant as a result of technological developments, sales revenues would not be completely shattered in the short term.

Hot Electric Utility Stocks To Own Right Now

I won't deny it: I've been a longtime fan of glassmaker Apogee Enterprises (NASDAQ: APOG  ) . Years ago, when the company decided to forgo some revenue by exiting the market for automotive windshields and focus instead on making higher-margin glass for building windows and picture framing, I thought that was the right call.

I haven't been in the stock for a while, however, because Apogee first got caught up in a weak construction market (driving down sales) and then recovered faster than I expected (driving up the stock price). But now that things have settled down a bit, post-Financial Crisis, I'm taking a closer look at Apogee once again ... beginning with last week's fiscal 2013 earnings report.

So what has Apogee been up to lately? Here's a quick rundown:

Full-year sales through March 2 rose 6%, with strong architectural glass performance driving growth. Cost of goods sold rose only 2%, leading to an improved gross profit margin. Muted growth in selling, general, and administrative costs further helped to improve operating income, which surged 619% year over year. Net profits nearly quadrupled to $0.67 per share, diluted.

Sound good so far? Great. Now, here's where it gets bad. A year ago, Apogee's weak GAAP net earnings number belied rather strong cash production at the company. Today, we're the reverse: Apogee's inflated GAAP net income overstates true cash profitability.

    Micropac is 76% owned by Heinz-Werner Hempel. He�� a German businessman. You can see the German company he founded here. He�� had control of Micropac for a long-time. I don�� have an exact number in front of me. But I would guess it�� been something like 25 years.

    ADDvantage

    ADDvantage Technologies is controlled by the Chymiak brothers. See the company�� April 4 press release explaining their decision to turn over the CEO position to an outsider. Regardless, the Chymiaks still control 47% of the company. Ken Chymiak is now chairman. And David Chymiak is still a director and now the company�� chief technology officer. Clearly, it�� still their company.

    By the way, the name ADDvantage Technologies has nothing to do with the Chymiaks. Today�� AEY really traces its roots to a private company called Tulsat. The Chymiak brothers acquired that company about 27 years ago. So, effectively, when you buy shares of AEY you are buying into a 27-year-old family-controlled company.

    That�� pretty typical in the world of net-nets.

    Solitron

    Solitron Devices is 29% owned by Shevach Saraf. He has been the CEO for 20 years. The post-bankruptcy Solitron has never known another CEO. Before the bankruptcy, Solitron was a much bigger, much different company. So even though we are not talking about the founder here ��and even though 70% of the company�� shares are not held by the CEO ��we��e still talking about a company where one person has a lot of control. Solitron only has three directors. Saraf is the chairman, CEO, president, CFO and treasurer. Neither of the other two directors joined the board within the last 15 years. So, we aren�� talking about a lot of tumult at the top.

    In fact, profitable net-nets seem to be especially common candidates for abandoning the responsibilities of a public company without actually getting taken private.

  • [By Geoff Gannon] on the amount of stock you can buy and the position size you like. For me, I try not to start buying a stock that I think will never make up 10% of my portfolio. If you don�� mind having 5% positions in your portfolio, your portfolio can obviously be twice as big as mine and you can still consider buying the same small stocks I do. In terms of specific stocks, it depends on the amount of float and the volume the stock trades in an average month. We are really getting into specifics here. And I may be boring people. But if you�� like to hear more about the minutiae of how you actually buy and sell tiny stocks like these, let me know, and I��l do an article on the subject.

    By the way, there is a hard and fast rule of thumb that it usually makes no sense to invest in a company with a market cap that is smaller than your portfolio. This is true for both fund and individual investors. Funds break it all the time. But, frankly, it is probably a waste of an analyst/fund manager�� time to even analyze such tiny positions relative to the size of the whole portfolio. Since even when we are discussing very small stocks we are still talking about millions and millions of dollars in market cap, this is hardly a concern for most individuals.

    So, for individual investors, actual inability to acquire enough shares of a company to meaningful influence their portfolio is rarely the problem. If you bid for a stock month after month ��you��l get your shares.

    The concern for individual investors is not whether buying enough shares is possible. The concern is how quickly and easily you can buy and sell. This is what we call ��iquidity.��/p>

    Instead of thinking about stocks as liquid or illiquid, you should think in terms of your portfolio and your liquidity needs. It doesn't make much sense to use what I'll call an "objective" (as in stock-oriented) approach to liquidity rather than a "subjective" (as in investor-oriented) approach to liquidity.
