Top 5 Heal Care Companies To Invest In 2014

Wal-Mart says its fourth quarter and full-year adjusted earnings may hit below its previous forecast.

Wal-Mart's latest expectation includes the effects of some Brazil-related charges and other items. Chief Financial Officer Charles Holley said in a statement that these items were not anticipated when Wal-Mart previously provided its forecasts.

Company stock is up 0.35% to $75.01 in afternoon trading.

The world's largest retailer also revised its expectation for sales at stores open at least a year a key metric for retailers. Sales, excluding fuel, at Walmart and Sam's Club locations in the U.S. could be slightly below its prior forecasts. That's in part due to several winter storms that led to store closings, Holley said.

Sales performance also slowed because of a bigger-than-expected impact from the federal government's reduction in food stamp benefits, which went into effect on Nov. 1, Holley said.
