PayPal is eBay's (NASDAQ: EBAY ) growth star these days. Total payments volume was up 21% last quarter, with revenue jumping 18%. In dollar terms, that's still less than the core marketplace business, but it's growing much faster. With that rising payments volume comes increasing responsibility over account security, particularly since payments are quickly shifting toward mobile platforms.
To that end, PayPal is hoping that Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL ) will play a part in bolstering its security. PayPal wants Apple's help in killing all security passwords.
Rest in peace
Nowadays, a short string of alphanumeric characters interspersed with exclamation points and ampersands is all it takes for unscrupulous types to get access to all your digits. There have been a string of high-profile security breaches in recent memory. Wired's Mat Honan had his digital life erased in just one hour, in part due to password security flaws at Apple and Amazon.com that allowed a hacker to remotely wipe all of his gadgets. Honan is now advocating killing the password, arguing that short strings of characters can't cut it anymore.

Friday's Volume: 430,000
Three-Month Average Volume: 96,902
Volume % Change: 375%From a technical perspective, FLDM gapped up sharply here and broke out above some near-term overhead resistance at $18.54 with heavy upside volume. This move also pushed shares of FLDM into new 52-week-high territory, since the stock took out $19.96 before closing at $19.55. Shares of FLDM are now trending within range of triggering a major breakout trade. That trade will hit if FLDM manages to take out Friday's high of $20.04 and then once it clears its all-time high of $20.20 with high volume.
Traders should now look for long-biased trades in FLDM as long as it's trending above Friday's low of $18.52 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that's near or above 96,902 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then FLDM will set up to enter new 52-week- and all-time-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $25 to $30.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Fede Zaldua]
Most Australian banks seem to comply with (1) and (2). On the other hand, Australian banks have a loan to deposit ratio of 120% and around 9% of their funding is short term foreign funding. This means that their results shall be severely damaged by a steep depreciation of the local currency. A good example of a bank that is easy to short from the US (since it trades in the New York Stock Exchange) is the Westpac Banking Corporation (WBK). Westpac generates 90% of its revenues domestically and sells for 2014 13.1 times earnings and 2.1 times its 2014 expected book value. That said, there is one problem that you will find when you short Westpac's shares: The bank pays a +5% cash dividend yield.

More than a handful of international companies had strong performances over the past year. Australia-based Westpac Banking (NYSE: WBK ) , for example, soared 54% -- and still yields a fat 5.4%. It's been hampered, though, by the slowdown in China, as China uses many commodities produced by Australia. Some worry about a housing slowdown hurting the company, too.

KiOR, Inc. (KiOR), incorporated on July 23, 2007, is development- stage company. KiOR is a renewable fuels company engaged in producing cellulosic gasoline and diesel from abundant non-food biomass. Cellulosic fuel is derived from lignocellulose found in wood, grasses and the non-edible portions of plants. The Company generates hydrocarbons from renewable sources . Its end products are fungible hydrocarbon-based gasolines and diesels that can be used as components in formulating finished gasoline and diesel fuels, rather than alcohols or fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) such as ethanol or biodiesel. During the year ended December 31, 2011, the Company commenced construction of its initial-scale commercial production facility in Columbus, Mississippi, designed to process 500 bone dry ton per day (BDT) of feedstock per day, As of December 31, 2011, the Company had not generated any revenues.
The Company has developed a process that converts non-food lignocellulose into gasoline and diesel that can be transported using the existing fuels distribution system for use in vehicles on the road. Its biomass-to-cellulosic fuel technology platform combines catalyst systems with fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) processes that have been used in crude oil refineries to produce gasoline. The biomass fluid catalytic cracking (BFCC) process operates at moderate temperatures and pressures to convert biomass in a matter of seconds into the renewable crude oil that can be processed using standard refining equipment into its cellulosic gasoline and diesel. In its demonstration unit the Company varies its volume output of gasoline from 37% to 61%, diesel from 31% to 55% and fuel oil from 8% to 9% from its renewable crude oil. The Company focuses on its commercialization efforts with respect to its gasoline and diesel. It has not been a good year for biofuel producer KiOR (NASDAQ: KIOR ) . Aside from the stock being down over 75%, the company has badly missed its guidance targets virtually every time, and its CFO quit without any explanation. Then, to top off the 12 months of disappointment, KiOR ended the year with another resignation and more production shortfalls.
- [By Robert Rapier]
In 2011, Khosla took public Amyris (Nasdaq: AMRS), Gevo (Nasdaq: GEVO), and KiOR (Nasdaq: KIOR). Each of these stocks started out trading up from the IPO price, with Amyris gaining more than 90 percent at one point. But the challenges of producing fuels from biomass began to mount, and investors realized that this business is capital-intensive. Enthusiasm for these companies dissipated as they fell short of production expectations. Since their respective IPOs Amyris, Gevo, and KiOR are down 70 percent, 92 percent, and 88 percent.
- [By Maxx Chatsko]
KiOR (NASDAQ: KIOR ) Here's a company that often gets associated with industrial biotech companies, but there are very few comparisons. Rather than encouraging microbes to pump out useful chemicals and fuels in biochemical processes, KiOR uses standard thermocatalytic reactions to turn wood chips and waste into drop-in fuels. The company does not produce cellulosic ethanol or biodiesel. The company produces chemically identical cellulosic gasoline and diesel, although current operations churn out fuel blendstocks. KiOR's first facility has an annual capacity of between 11-13 million gallons of fuels, while a larger facility will be three times that size. A modular platform and catalytic improvements will help boost economics and scale for future production.

Although some view patent investors or speculators as nothing more than "patent trolls," small cap patent stocks RPX Corporation (NASDAQ: RPXC), Marathon Patent Group Inc (OTCBB: MARA) and Endeavor IP Inc (OTCBB: ENIP) are a couple of interesting options that allow retail investors to invest in patents as they either invest in patents themselves or they provide patent related services. However, there could be risks associated with investing in patent stocks because a bi-partisan bill called the Innovation Act (H.R. 3309) isworking its way through Congress to try and reign in the activities of so-calledpatent trolls or companieswho go out and buy or license patents from others and then target alleged infringers with lawsuits.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Seth Jayson]
Margins matter. The more Immersion (Nasdaq: IMMR ) keeps of each buck it earns in revenue, the more money it has to invest in growth, fund new strategic plans, or (gasp!) distribute to shareholders. Healthy margins often separate pretenders from the best stocks in the market. That's why we check up on margins at least once a quarter in this series. I'm looking for the absolute numbers, so I can compare them to current and potential competitors, and any trend that may tell me how strong Immersion's competitive position could be.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Chandan Dubey]
I have been holding shares of Orange (ORAN)(XPAR:ORA), previously known as France Telecom, since December 2011. In this article, I want to discuss some of the things that worry me about the company.
- [By Sean Williams]
This week's loser
The laggard this week was foreign telecommunications provider Orange (NYSE: ORAN ) (formerly France Telecom), which dipped 4.2% on the week. Although no company-specific news set off the pessimism, regional worries out of Portugal that austerity measures may not stick sent ripples of fear throughout Europe, where the heart of Orange's revenue stream is located. I purchased Orange in my own portfolio late last year on the high prospects for its emerging market growth coupled with steady European cash flow. While I certainly haven't liked seeing its dividend get cut by more than 40%, and feel more hiccups may be on the way, I see it as an incredible cash cow at these levels, and am still considering adding to my position. - [By Brian Pacampara]
